Titi Conservation Alliance is currently reaching out into the community to expand our reforestation efforts, at the same time seeking ways in supporting local farmers in Sabalo to develop sustainable incomes and achieve a fair price for their products.
The Sabalo Project aims to improve wellbeing of the community, and wildlife conservation in the Naranjo River biological corridor, by supporting the development of sustainable agriculture through agro-ecological practices, knowledge of on-farm biodiversity, biological monitoring, environmental education and strengthening the Sabaloagricultural cooperative as a driver for local development.
The project will involve looking at ways in which farmers in CoopeSabalo can achieve a fair price for their products, maintain good agricultural practice, and contribute to the ecological sustainability of the area, all in one! This is no mean feat!
In times of:
– mass production of food and agricultural commodities,
– widespread use of pesticides,
– rising human health problems due to obesity and falling fresh fruit and vegetable consumption, and also
– when people all over the world leaving agricultural lives and livelihoods in rural areas, and moving to large urban areas, this project is important and yet, so, so important!
